I'm a big girl now

Isabella is a very determine little lady and she decided that she would have nothing more to do with bottles.

For a while now daddy has been \putting Isabella to sleep using a bottle of breast milk. Isabella also started taking some bottles during the day when Fredrica started working a couple of days per week -- Isabella has been spending time with one of her favorite people, our very good friend Andrea (our doula who helped Isabella come into the world).

So... Isabella, who has been taking the bottles of breast milk without problem, has now suddenly decided not ... 'it's not for me anymore!'.

Ansi, Isabella's Swedish stand-in grandmother suggested we start introducing a sippy cup... with the thought that she might learn how to sip from it before she wants to take a bottle again... It will take a little while for her to get it figured out, but she sure loves trying! Here a picture of the very first time. She is not getting much out of it boy is she having fun trying.

Blueberries and our vegetable garden

We truly enjoy our garden and our vegetable garden is growing fast now in the nice weather.

Right now we're growing; swiss chard, zucchini, a variety of tomatoes, spinach, strawberries, purple beans, cucumber, artichoke, eggplant, yellow peppers, wheat grass. Here is a picture of our Swiss Chard (click it to enlarge)...

Believe it or not... we are also growing blueberries. I grew up with blueberries growing outside my house in the forrest and never as plants and I didn't even know you could grow them until me and my friend Michele went to the nursery and found blueberry plants.

Evidently you have to have two different kinds together and so we both bought them. This morning I found all these blueberries laying on the deck so we picked a handful of them and they taste so sweet and juicy you would not belive it.

Most importantly... mmmm. they are sweet!

Rough week for Isabella

Poor Isabella has had quite a week. First, she scratched her eye so badly that the pediatrician had to put a patch over her eye up 24 hours to let it heal. Amazingly, a scratch on the cornea of a baby's eye will heal in 24 hours if left alone...

Then she got her first cold. Lots of coughing and congestion -- pretty uncomfortable. Her nose was runny and red so dad introduced her to the song "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer." For those in Sweden, the lyrics are kind of cute... Saturday night she was up most of the night. Poor mom took the brunt of it and by Sunday was feeling pretty terrible herself.

Monday, mom went to the doctor, strep throat! So dad has been home from work taking care of everyone!

Somehow, in the middle of it all, Joseph (James friend he went to college with and started two software companies) came down for a visit on Sunday. Joseph's current company, Vontu, is doing really well. They now have 150 employees. Joseph flew the entire company down from San Francisco to Dana Point (just north of San Diego) for a company offsite.

We got to meet Joseph's new girlfriend, Alex. You can probably tell from the picture, she was super nice and alot of fun!

We've moved!

We have moved from our beautiful beach house and it comes with great sadness as we loved living there. For you who have not been here visiting us, 230 West H Street was a great home for us in past 13 months. It's referred to as "heaven on earth" and it sure is. It's located one block from the ocean, one block from down town Encinitas and one from the Yoga Room where we have both been teaching and practicing.

It is a small 2 beedroom house and it has a lage garden with an apple tree, a passion fruit tree, a lemon tree as well as peppers, tomatoes, and strawberries plants So many beatiful flowers grew in the garden. It’s also the home of a skunk, one mightly large possum, lots of humming birds and two lizzards who have been known to venture into the house much to Fredrica's dismay.

It worked well for us when it was only us two and even when Isabella was first born, however in the past month it has become clear that the house was just not that practical for us anymore. Our landlord, who is a local artist and a wonderful woman, was sad to see us go and said she would build a second room if we stayed. Soooo sweet.

Our new home on 4565 Estrella Avenue is located more inland and is on such quite street that sometimes I feel me and Isabella are the last two people on earth. We enjoy the extra space and the much bigger garden and James enjoy the shorter commut for now however his company will move further away in July.
